## What I want

I want to write about cyberpunk.
Not the game, not the tabletop specifically, and not limited to it.

To me, cyberpunk is a door to a specific world that existed in the 80s and 90s.
It was a period where technology was mostly experimented as new devices, new formats.
It was also Japan dominance in this field. You'd wait a whole year or more to get the Playstation after Japan.
They had cool tech they would not even export. The brand recognition was insane. Sony was the Apple of that time.

And it was based on that that some author talked about the future.
Cyberpunk was never about predicting the future. It imagined futures from the perspective of the 1980s. Futures that were exciting, frightening, sometimes beautiful, sometimes dirty, sometimes desperate.

It was a dystopian extrapolation from that time.
Not the big SF, the Starwars, 2001, it was street level.

And boy, it resonated with me.

So, around but not limited to Cyberpunk, I will talk about

- Hacking (in the Stallman, cyberpunk meaning of it)

## How I want to do that

By writing!

And while this site is not exactly a tech demo, there is one cool thing I spent time on.
I write markdown (md) files and the Javascript will make it HTML using the CSS of this site.

Here is [markdown example](https://cyberfrk.neocities.org/about.md) on this very site.
So I just write text, basically. No "I am tired today", no expertise required.
The [Javascript on this site](https://cyberfrk.neocities.org/site.js) almost only do that, parse a md file and diplay it.

And I want it to be super fast, the web I wanted : mostly text, very light parsing, minimal design.

## What I don't want

I am no about memorabilia. Yeah, I do think that internet was more cool in 1997.
It was the coolest thing on earth! And now it is boring.
I have met zero person in a decade. Best case, something cool on youtube.

But no, we did not have glowing CRT with scanlines, most website were not tech demo.
Animated GIFs already looked like bad taste for as long as I remember.

I don't miss the CRT, the slow modems, I love tech.
What I miss is that internet was enlightning people.
Home pages were a place to share. These home pages were connected.
Internet was like visiting a "cyber world", and we really called it that.

## Conclusion

I don't want to show you something that look old.
It looks simple because it is focused on text and cyberpunk.
